cover corps

I was watching Ed Hume's "Gardening in America" show last week and he did a
whole segment on cover crops. To make it easy, he puts out a bag of "cover
crop" seed just for vegetable gardens. It didn't seem like he was having a
problem spading it in. He showed planting it, and then what it looks like
in the winter...nice green growth, not too tall, and then showed turning it
under. It looked pretty tender and like it would not be a problem to
dispose of. For ease, it might be the thing to just get his special mix of
seed and use that. I'm sure you could call his headquarters, here in
Seattle, for more information. He is a pretty accessible guy and free with
the information. Been a fixture in Seattle for years and years. We are
adding all our ground up leaves to the garden to be tilled in. RJ runs the
weed eater over them, then the lawn mower which chops them up and bags them,
then dumps them on the garden. It works. We plan to throw down some of the
cover crop seed and see what happens.
