Barbi,
JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT THE PUMPKIN SEASON WAS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S PUMPKIN
REGATTA TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stew Leonard is putting up
$10,000 dollars to back the second annual Stew Leonards/ New York City Central
Park Pumpkin Regatta. DON'T sell or carve your pumpkins
yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only will Stew be in search of some pumpkins to
buy for big bucks, the regatta will have a winner take all cash prize of
$3,000. The race will be open to any sailor who has a 750 pound pumpkin or
larger. Appx. 5,000 bucks, of the 10 grand will be allotted for the purchase
of pumpkins. Stew is in search of 4 pumpkins....one in the 900 pound range to
carve and 3 others for boats. You have the option to offer your pumpkin for
sale and make some sure money, or take a chance, bring your pumpkin boat and
sail away with the 3,000 dollars and get on national TV. If you are interested
in selling your pumpkin, contact Wayne Hackney (pumkinguy@aol.com). Boat sized
pumpkins must be a minimum of high 700s to the 800 pound range, be totally
sound as of Oct 28, and delivered to Stew Leonard's store in Danbury , Ct.
High, tractor tire types do not make good boats. Pumpkins should be wide and
or long. The race will take place at Bethesda fountain in central Park in New
York City on Thursday , Oct.29. Veteran Pumpkin boat racers, Stew Leonard,
Henry Stearn (New York City Parks Commish), and Wayne Hackney (pumkinguy) are
the early entries and we welcome all challengers. Pumpkin boats will be built,
the day before the race at Stew Leonards Dairy Store in Danbury, Ct. You may
build your own boat and bring it to Stews on Wednesday for inspection, or
bring your pumpkin first thing in the morning and we will show you how to
build a boat and you can build yours with us. Stew will supply the electric
trolling motor and battery to any seaworthy pumpkin boat at no charge. There
will be no last minute entries for stew has to buy the motors in advance. All
motors will be the same power. For specifications on the pumpkin boat call
Wayne @ 860-354-4924 after 6 Eastern. Last years event was covered by CNN,
NBC, FOX and CBS. If you have a pumpkin for sale or a pumpkin to sail....call
me.
Wayne
