I'll add my two cents to the discussion about why we grow AG's:
it is fun
it is a stress relief
it is a challenge
its great to just visit the patch and watch
the kids love it
the adults love it
its amazing to watch something grow that fast
the bees love it
the cucumber beetles love it (well they do - but we don't)
it is addictive (I cannot stop)
harvest time is fun
carving the big guys is a blast
patch tours in the fall
and on and on it goes.....
