Southern Hemisphere Pumpkineers

I am a little slow in responding as I have been taking the Digest and
reading every few days. Now that our season is upon us I must try to change
my habits

The short answer is No, we don't seem to have too many pests at least in Oz
that attack pumpkins. I don't believe we have the Cucumber beetle but we do
have a pumpkin beetle which does not exist in North America. Fortunately the
pumpkin beetle does not like the cooler climates so is not a big problem
here in the south.
I have never heard of vine borer here either. The main problems I have had
are powdery mildue, mites and white fly.
Last season was hot and dry due to El Nino but this year has started out wet
in this part of the country so we may be in for a good growing season.
I have put some seeds on the cooker and one has sprouted after a couple of
days so I will probably start planting out this week.

Are there any pumpkin growers planning to visit Australia for the 2000
Olympics?

Now that the Northerner's season is winding down ,many of our thoughts and
plans for next year are comming to the forefront. This got me
curious........do
the southern hemisphere growers fight the same "critters" that we do? Any
squash borers, cucumber beetles,or squash bugs down under?Besides the heat
and
the dryness, what obstacles do you all face?
Hmmmm,......if I retire now,I could live near Canby fromApril to
october,then
"winter" in Austrailia......(or New Z.)....................
