Next year I hope to create my own seed stock by crossing two plants that
have shown all the characteristics that I want.Unfortunately I dont have
enough room to do this AND grow a thousand pounder. The future seed stock plant
will be grown in a restricted space but with all the right nutrients, etc. In
short, the pumpkin will not be 800+ poiunds due to the small plant size-but the
seeds will contain "the good stuff, and the pumpkin will live to maturity so
the seeds develop properly.
Am I correct in assuming that restricting the plant size will not have any
effect on the seed's potential if the conditions are as stated above?
Or,if I leave 4-5 fruit on a plant and the fruit does't grow to gargantuan
proportions because of it,the genetic material is still there waiting to "be
all that it can be"next year when it gets 1200 sq.ft and all of my efforts?
I throw these two questions out there for anyone with experience or
knoweledge out there.........thanx-Glenn
