Hello Growers,
I have just seen an article in NS of 24 Oct regarding the use of coloured
ground covers. It seems there is this felow called Michael Kasperbauer who
has been experimenting with the effects of coloured light on plant growth
since the 60s. The result has shown that using coloured mulch can increase
the fruit yeild by 15 - 20%.
Strawberries grown over bright red sheets instead of black plastic produced
more and bigger strawberries.
Several references are quoted under headings such as Photochemistry and
Photobiology.
They suggest that there is a limited amount of the coloured mulch available
commercially but it may be worth experimenting.
Has anyone seen this used?
