I, too, planted Buck Meiers sunflowers seeds and the largest is maybe 10 inches across...very late blooming.  They are about 8 feet tall.  Beautiful but by far not the largest I have ever grown.  I planted some seeds from one maverick sunflower I had last year....they averaged 10-15 feet tall with about 25 blooms per plant.  The blooms were 6 to 8 inches across.  They were spectacular!  I have lots of seed if anyone wants them.  They might win for height but they definitely win with me for number of blooms and sheer drama.  They shaded the patch from the hot mid afternoon sun.
