Bob,
You are correct in stating that the french translation for pumpkin is
citrouille...in french Canada. In France a pumpkin is a potiron. Potimarron
is not a real word, probably a brand name of sorts. But looking at the word
I came to these conclusions : poti obviously stand for potiron or
pumpkin....marron can be one of two things...either marron meaning chestnut
(probably in reference to the color) or french slang for having fun.
Therefore...potimarron could be roughly translated into chestnut-brown
pumpkin, or, funkin.
Well, that's my scholastic input for the day...I hope I am somewhat right
and that this somewhat helps....
