Pumpkins, Frost, and Propane

Well we have been covering everything with FRC and plastic tenting, but last
night one side vine of one of my 780 Momberts got uncovered by the wind
SOMEHOW and got touched by frost. The plant as a whole is O.K., though,
(despite the fact it is virus infected as well). Just lost a few leaves.
I sprayed with seaweed tonight and put under a few hundred gallons (well
maybe a little less, but it seemed like a few hundred!) of hot water bottles.
But in a couple days I will have my new system set up, which will include
using the new small portable "radiant heat" propane heaters to generate heat
constantly all night. I am hoping to add a thermostatically controlled
ventilation fan too, to keep the temperatures just right. I found a
programmable thermostat which lets you program tons of combinations of stuff
for only $5! I can't beleive I didn't think of all of this before. Anyway,
we are using plastic as a tent (like massive cloches) over everything and
hopefulyl I'll figure out a good method of circulating the heat. I am also
going to use black water containers and tanks to absorb the sun's heat during
the day, as well as black plastic mulch to heat the soil up. I am hoping this
all will work well to not only avoid any frost damage, but to keep the temps
at the ideal level for best growth to finish off the pumpkins. Including my
1250 Sedlar 99, (Look out Larry and Gerry! Ha ha)! Well, I WISH! But I should
get them pretty decent. I just hope there is some weigh off left to take them
to!
