Picton
Hi Mike...Prince Edward County growers took the top 3 spots at the
Battersea Pumpkin Festival last Saturday and this Saturday will be our
own weigh in. It will be official this year as we have obtained the use
of a regulation set of scales from Toledo.
I expect that the 793.5 grown by Arnold Vader and entered in Ottawa will
be the biggest (he came 6th there and our rules are that only the 1st,
2nd or 3rd winners of another weigh-off are disqualified) Covert's 818
went down on him before the Battersea Weigh-off and he took his next
biggest to Battersea and won with a 794. Greer was 2nd with a 666 and
Vader was third with a 656.
There could be a local grower or 2 that has been keeping theirs under
wraps so we will have to wait and see.
Our Prince Edward County Pumpkin Growers now has 60 members and there
are also lots of growers who haven't joined yet. They will have to join
in order to weigh in at our Pumpkinfest. Pray for nice weather on
Saturday. Jim Ives in Picton, Ontario.
