RE: Thief Protection

Great story, Joe! One of the most dishonest things I ever saw was a
pumpkin seed raid at the feedstore (local weigh-off site) the night after
the competition before everyone picked up their behemoths- large fist-sized
holes in most of the pumpkins. Maybe we can erect force fields around our
pumpkins.

Take care,

Pumpkinist.

Subject: Thief Protection

Hi All,

With my 520 sitting proudly on the porch, prominent and seemingly
unprotected from the likes of thieves, I decided to take some
precautions. On the wall above it is a pad of release forms which
"...hold harmless and indemnify the grower/homeowner (us) from any and
all injuries resulting from attempting to move the aforementioned
curcurbit..." Anyone considering theft is required to sign one prior to
engaging in any back-threatening activity.

This protects not only the grower but provides an incentive for would-be
thieves to verify that their health insurance is in order. -- I
understand that some HMO's have indicated a rather large co-payment for
treatment of injuries resulting from moving fruits and vegetables in
order to discourage this kind of behavior (Of course, any work-related
vegetable-moving injuries which are tragic [and likely covered, in part,
by the Department of Labor and Industries] would be excepted.)

Although this method is only useful in situations where literacy in
thieves is common, it does provide an added degree of security in a
world that sadly, still needs it.
