In my humble opinion (IMHO), seeds are meant to be planted, not collected.
Since one seed cannot be differentiated from another, it serves little
purpose to keep them in a display case. Personally, I hope never to see a
museum-quality seed.
Another reason that seeds should be planted is one of common courtesy: the
grower who supplied the seed undoubtedly believed the seed would be planted.
I really doubt that growers would be as willing to share their seeds
(actually, to do all the extra work to prepare their seeds for sharing) if
they knew the seeds were just going to be put in a drawer rather than in the
dirt.
What good is hoarding a seed just to see if it is going to become the next
silver bullet? This is a lazy approach to growing pumpkins -- planting only
seeds that others have proven. Why not be the one who proves it, instead? Be
a leader, not a follower.
Lastly, a large collection of seeds necessarily takes those seeds away from
other growers who would put them in the ground. High demand or low, those
seeds are simply no longer available. It's a selfish misuse of another's
generosity.
Seeds are meant to be sown.

1) many of us do have more seeds than we will ever
plant. And maybe we should do more and be willing to
share them with new people on the list and others.
Many good seeds will never get plants.
on the other hand ...
2) why not ? if one want to collect them.. and
growers are willing to give them the seeds... then who
cares ?
last year i tried to collect a lot because i was
hoping that after this season i might have a proven
winner in there somewhere !
