So. Indiana update..free seeds

Hello all,
I must say my first year growing these monsters has been a hoot and a
learning experiance! I will be back for more! With proven seeds next
year, and maybe one of my own. I currently am down to two,one on the Mappes
815 measuring at 500+ and one on the Mombert 859 measuring 600+. I just hope
they last another 28 days, both have problems of thier own, which are under
control for now. I have surpassed my goal of 300 lbs. for this year, now if I
can just get one to weigh off. My big Watermelon is still kicking, gaining an
average of two lbs. per day, thought I might have a shot at the World
record, but now I am sceptical. Would of (will be?) a heck of a feat to beat
the world record my first time out,but I haven't given up hope on doing so
just yet. It is currently at about 215 lbs.,according to my estimate. Any
advice on packing on the pounds this late in the season?? I cut 2 pumpkins
off Wednesday, one had good seeds and they are free to those interested, just
like the ones I got from others last year, with the exception of a few I had
to buy if I wanted them.(you know who you are.) But I don't see anything
wrong with paying for seeds, but I do think $10 is a little steep for
unproven seed, but I paid it! The seeds I have for free are from a 400 est.
off the Mombert 749 X Mappes 815. Had nice orange color and thick walls.
E-mail me privately and send me $1 for postage and bubble pack and I'll send
some out to you. Now for the seed bickering that has been going on; I think
if you don't have a nice large seed bank to choose from you can't be that
serious about growing BIG pumpkins. Without the right seeds you have a very
slim chance of growing the biggies. Sure, someone has to prove it but I
myself don't have the time or patch space to try and prove a few seeds. I
grew unproven this year because it was my rookie year and I didn't want to
waste good seeds on a learning experiance, now I've learned, and will try
proven seed and one of my own from here on out. Those crying about big seed
collections, wonder how many seeds you have?? I know I spent a small fortune
on seeds,is it not the most important thing to start with? I sent out alot
of request, with cash money in most paying for the lines that these growers
developed. It wasn't alot,$5-$10 but I thought they deserved a little
something for thier efforts. Every single one kept the money, with the
exception of Gary Burke,he returned the $10 and said "My seeds are always
free." What a guy,He even paid postage!I will never forget that, and taking
this from him,my seeds will always be free. I've given away some seeds
people have sent me,and will give more if and when needed to the IPGA for
our auction or new members. I've rambled on long enough, just had to give my
dollars worth!
