C vs OTT
Will N.--your query has really triggered my interest since for years I have
used the 3 measurements that go into the OTT and looked at the circumference
vs the total.
This "C" divided by the "OTT" gave me a figure that was a blunder check on
my OTT measurements which I take every 4 days, exactly(plus or minus 1
hour,honestly,I like accuracy)
During Aug and Sept this ratio increases,ie. "C" divided by "OTT" has a
steadily increasing trend.
This has led to what,IMHO,is an ideal value for this ratio. (Note I have
learned IMHO,old dogs do learn (simple) new tricks).
For example,at present I have an AG with a ratio of .427 (3 significent
figures are needed),which I consider to be a fruit higher and shorter than
my view of ideal, but yet will likely weigh well over the Stellpflug 1999
chart.
What is ideal??
I have one at .443,which in my view has an ideal shape.
Perhaps this concept will interest others and I would love to see what other
growers, who may have a great AG at present, get by dividing the OTT total by
the C--Al E.
P.S.-I expect that my vision of the best shape will be different than that
of other growers, that is normal. We basically choose our seed and have to
take the shape we get.As evolution of the top (heaviest AG's) continues the
"ideal shape will tend to evolve by Darwinism.Very exciting past and a great
future here for all AG fanatics.I like to have an "ideal" so I can grow
towards that objective with seed selection.
The ideal ratio and the ideal color, incidentally, would be the average of the
top 5 AG's at our local weigh-off,since maybe these things are related to
local climate.Yet there is so much AG genetic variability(to our benefit and
to our peril)that I wonder sometimes if a climatic factor is real or could
be proven.Still many AG questions remaining.

Just kidding.
On a more serious note, can anyone suggest the influence of the
circumference
measurement on the the total pumpkin measurement with regard to predicted
weight?
For example, if 2 pumpkins have the same total measurment, but one has a
larger circumference but smaller over-the-top measurements than the other,
will one tend to weigh more the the other?
