Re:CLARENCE WEIGH-IN/OFF TIME???

What is the Official weigh-In time at CLARENCE, NY on Sept 30?
I've heard that it's 10 am.

I'll just be watching again this year. Last pumpkin over 200 lbs has
decided it wants to leave home early and is slowly detaching itself from the
vine. Yep, I positioned it as best I could when it was young and cut the
roots on either side. Stii, it grew too close to the main vine and put
increasing pressure on the stem junction. Hope it lasts for a few more weeks
without spoiling. I treat it with DACONIL as needed.
I received some great seeds from Barb KINCAID and started them indoors.
Season started 6 wks late for me due to my clay soil and wet, wet, cool weather.
Plants were root-bound in their pots by then but shook that off and really
grew well. I had to water only once all season. But the incessant rains and
damp weather negated most of the effect of spraying.
Saturday, I found a white, wiggly thing in a yellowed section of a leaf stem
near the end of the vine. It was a bit longer than 1/4 inch. I thought it
was too late for vine borers?
I planted some Mexican sunflowers (Tithonia) as a windbreak on the exposed
west side. They thrived! Their roots, no doubt, stole some of the
nourishment meant for the pumpkins.
There will be few local pumpkins for the market this year. They are still
green in the fields. I hope to have 3 deep orange ones that I can place in
front of my house. They will still be big enough to attract attention.
But, just wait till next year. Of course, that's what I said last year.
Paul in PERINTON, NY.
