Hello list,

I'm going to be building  a tripod out of 4'x4' posts. My question is about
length of the posts. I will be hoisting the pumpkins to the bed of  a Ford
F-150, do you think 14' posts are long enough or should I go with 16'. I
will be using the PGPGA lifter if that is important in determining how long
they should be.

Thanks everybody
Amy

Amy, I believe the minimum height will be determined by the width of the
truck bed plus an extra foot or so to maneuver in. Take a long stick or
similar long object and lean the top of it to the center of the bed making
sure you have plenty side clearance. This should be accurate enough to
establish the minimum length of your post. Remember, the higher the post, the
safer your tripod will be. 15 foot posts spread 8-9 feet at the base will
lift more than 12 foot post with the same spread.

You will also need to consider the length of the ring and straps + the
height of the
bed and skid + the length of chain and hoist used.

   Good luck,
