Last Chance for the Great Pumpkin Weigh Off Pool 2001

Time is running out to enter the Great Pumpkin Weigh Off Pool, 2001.  Since some small weigh-offs have already occurred I will have to close the pool to new entries soon.

The object of this contest is to guess the correct weight of the heaviest officially weighed pumpkin grown this year.  To enter you should donate a prize - something pumpkin or growing related such as hot seeds, pumpkin videos, books, or tape measures.  If you don't have a good prize to donate, just enter.  You have the same chance to win.

We now have about 30 entries and 5 prize pools. You can't win if you don't enter.  Submit your guess before someone else takes your number!

Please read the following rules and direct all EMAIL MESSAGES RELATED TO
THIS POOL DIRECTLY TO ME AT: a*@yahoo.com

All submissions to the Mallorn list will be ignored.  We don't want to clog up the pumpkin mailing list with e-mails.

2. AWARDING PRIZES
The person guessing closest to the determined heaviest pumpkin of the
season will get first choice from available prizes.  The person choosing
the next closest number will get second choice and so on.  If enough people enter
the pool I will add more prize groups.

3. RECEIVING PRIZES
Transfer of prizes must be arranged between donors to winners.

4. ELIGIBILITY
Anyone in this group can enter.

5. WEIGHTS & MEASURES
All pumpkins and guess will be weighed in pounds; no fractions of a
pound please.

6. ENTERING
To enter, email me at: a*@yahoo.com and provide the
following information:
   -your guess (in pounds)
   -your name (or alias)
   -your province or state
You are encouraged to donate to the pool, please include a description of
the prize you wish to donate.  It should be related to pumpkin growing

7. DETERMINING A WINNER
The weight of the pumpkin considered to be the heaviest of the season
must be of an official weight.  That is, it must be weighed at a
legitimate venue with legal scales.  Before winners are determined, I
will put forth what I consider to be the be the heaviest of the season
and open it up for discussion.  I hope to have everyone's input here.
Please send me any information you come across.  If a world record is
broken this season, this should not be a difficult task as the media
will help.

8. TWO WINNERS
If there are two winners (i.e. one guesses high and one guesses low) a
tie will be announced and the winners can decide on how to split the
loot of 1st and 2nd place.

9.  SAME NUMBER
If you submit a number that has already been chosen, you will be
informed by email and you can submit again.

10.  UPDATES
I will periodically post pool updates.  I will not reveal anyone's
guess until the pool closes but I will inform the group of the number of
guesses collected.  I will also remind the group of deadlines.

11.  CLOSING DATE
The pool will stop taking submissions on midnight September 30th
or before the first official weigh off.  The pool will stop
looking for the largest pumpkin of the season on Sunday
October 27th.  Top winners will be announced on October 31st!

12. NOTICE
This pool is meant to be a fun activity.  I hope everyone participates
and helps out.  I take no responsibility for unrecorded guesses or
missed pumpkin weights.  I'll try my best.
