This is my second year growing AG's, and for awhile
thought I might actually have something good enough for the state fair.
With 4 pumpkins on a single plant, I lost the largest (636 est.) last month to
groundhog damage. The next (552 est.) was lost to a dill ring split. Over
the weekend I lost number three (495 est.) to a blossom-end split, and my
last pumpkin (447 est.) developed a soft spot today due to internal rot,
apparently caused by insect munching underneath the pumpkin.
It amazes me that after much hard work I was able
to far exceed last year's personal best of 186 lbs, yet at the same time have
managed to end up with NOTHING for Halloween. This year has been one heck of a
learning experience, and thanks to everyone who offered me advice along the
way.
