Questions and New Critter story

Hey all,

I am happy for all of you who have been fortunate enough to grow a big one this year!  I also feel for those of you who have had a split or some other catastrophe ailing a possible prizewinner.

I have had little success in my first year, but am preparing for next year.  As part of the preparation, I am building a modest website that will have a few pictures as well as my journal for the 2003 growing season which started on August 26, 2002.  I’ll post a link when the site is uploaded.

Ok….the critter story.  I have done well as far as critter control this year.  I chased off the wild turkeys, trapped the mole, kept my children at bay and even banished my father-in-law from the patch and garden.  I took care of the horn worms, cucumber beetles, squash bugs and finches.  The deer have been grazing the pastures, but stay away from the garden and patch on account of the dogs.  I have also been successful moving the cows through sparsely cattle proof areas.

This morning, however, I came across a new critter.  This critter did not harm the patch, but instead decided to invade the raspberries and strawberries at the west end of the garden.  My good for nothing guard dogs didn’t even notice.  How could they not notice the huge black bear grazing in the garden?  Well, I think I have now seen it all.  The good thing is that as uptight as I was, the bear was doubly so and got over a couple fences and into the woods before I even had a chance to “digest” what I had just seen.

Enjoy the rest of the season, and try not to stress too much.  I am so looking forward to more weigh off results, and for the opportunity to hit some of you big timers up for seeds…lol.

God Bless,

Dale E Fisher
