Re: Questions and New Critter story.... bear in my garden.

I just noticed this email about bears......

Believe it or not, I had a bear in my garden the summer of 1997, it even
made the local news. It was supposedly a mother bear with her cubs, she had
been spotted in my town and few of the surrounding towns. I happened upon
her while going to my compost bin which was behind a 8 foot high solid wood
fence,.... I was walking to the bin when I looked up and 'she' looked up at
me, she was standing up and leaning into my compost bin as she ate pumpkins
that I had thrown away, (back then I wasn't using any harmful chemicals, so
the pumpkins were safe) she didn't even flinch and kept eating, I did flinch
big time as I was within 8 feet of her before I even noticed her, she never
made a sound ....it makes a nice story. That was my 2nd year of growing
AG's and the pumpkin which was growing near my compost bin grew to 552lbs.
You may call me escentric, but I had put out a radio and left it on 24 hours
a day for 2 months... (in a waterproof enclosure) right next to that big
pumpkin, this was my bear scare tactic. It worked, my big pumpkin that year
was never touched and probably the best looking pumpkin that I have grown to
date.
