Help my novice-ness

Hello Gang,

       Total Newbie here. Every year I get the calling to plant a pumpkin and see how big I can get it. Success has only brought me about 60 pounds thus far. I'm a hack novice at best. Beyond digging up the ground, adding basic amendment, and dropping in a few 'giant pumpkin' seeds in....I'm fairly useless.

       I'm over here in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles area). Would there perhaps be anyone near me who would like to show-off their knowledge and skills on large pumpkin growing. I can read everything and see it in books....but for me, there is no substitute for real-time, hands on experience. I'm the guy who throws away the instructions....problem here is...I need instruction! I'm hoping somebody near me is willing to do some hands-on showing off in their garden.

       In exchange, I'll give you a free insulation job in your attic AND a ride in my new Hummer H2. Any takers? (references available to prove I'm only enthusiastic and NOT psychotic)
