Rules and Regulations


1.  The pumpkin must have been grown and cared for by the exhibitor.
2.  An exhibitor may enter only one specimen per class and there may be no 
more than two entries per family per class.
3.  A specimen must be entered and weighed by the exhibitor at The Great 
Pumpkin Farm in Clarence, NY. An entry fee of $5 may be charged for each 
entry. 
4.  There will be an agricultural agent and /or government representative to 
assist as judge, inspect entries and supervise weighing.
5.  Color requirements - To be eligible for the heaviest pumpkin the entry 
must be a minimum of 75% white to cream-yellow to orange in color. All others 
are considered Squash.
6.  The specimen must be sound, healthy and undamaged.  Entries must be free 
of rot, holes/cracks through the cavity, chemical residue (fungicides) and 
soft spots.
7.  No foreign material is permitted to be included in the weighing.  Vine 
must be trimmed to one inch from the stem of the fruit.  The judges reserve 
the right to fully inspect each specimen before the weight is announced and 
official.  Refusal to allow the inspection of an entry will cause said entry 
to be deemed "exhibition only".
8.  Any specimen previously entered or weighed at any other National or 
International competition prior to the Clarence event is not eligible for 
competition.
9.  In the event of a tie, the prize money for those two places will be 
combined and split equally.
10. Entries must be received on an official entry form by 10:00 a.m. (entries 
must be present for the start of the competition). Unloading may start as 
early as 8:30-9:00 a.m.
11. All pumpkins and squash must have a proper lifting tarp and be loaded on 
a skid/pallet so that a forklift can easily lift the entry and take it to the 
scale.
12. No entrant/spectator shell attempt to influence the judges or impede the 
proceedings of a fair competition.
13. The Great Pumpkin Farm reserves the right to suspend or remove any 
competitor/spectator.
14. The Great Pumpkin Farm and its volunteers shall not be responsible for 
any accidents, losses or breakage of entries, exhibits or displays.
15. The winners of the top three (3) places of the pumpkin category agree 
that his/her specimens will become the property of The Great Pumpkin Farm.  
Winners also agree that the use of their names & likenesses may be used for 
promotional purposes without any further compensation.
16. The heaviest pumpkin weighed in at The Great Pumpkin Farm on September 
28, 2002 will receive $1,000.00 USD first place money unless it is and 
remains a credible "world record" as of October 15th. Then a $10,000.00 USD 
award will be given.
17. Second and Third place pumpkins will receive $500.00 USD and $300.00 USD 
respectively.

All record-breaking results will be sent to The Guinness Book of World 
Records in a timely manner.
