I need you help....

Help!

I came home after being away for two days on business (been to a trade show).  I immediately went to see my lone fruit in the patch and took off the blanket I cover it with at night to keep it warm.  I was fine, but I wanted to make sure there was some air.  Noticing it had grown a bit a grabbed the tape and it is now taping out at larger than the two I had last year, it's real beefy too!

now the bad stuff.  I covered it back over for the night as it was already starting to get dark.

later I heard noises outside and went to check my baby with a smile that I could potentially have a record, especially if it keeps the sustained growth for another week or two.

but on peering under the tent, the blanket had been ripped off and was covered in mud, that's not a problem.

something, or someone, has hacked an area about 6" x 18" off near the base of the fruit, and it was covered in dirt.  dismayed I have spent a long time cleaning off the dirt as best I could by touch light and covered the area with diluted bleach.  what else can I do, I was hoping to have this here to show my aunts, uncles and cousins when we have a get together on 12th October for my 21st birthday.
