Re: Poem

Dear Beth Rado,
I would sincerely appreciate it if you would agree to be one of the
judges of this contest. I can see the competition is going to be steep,
and we can use a level head like yours.
Kathie. You are too kind (I'm sure Alan would agree!). But you know, I'm really not the best person for this assignment. One person whose help you should definitely enlist is the venerable Tony Hickman. If you could lure him out of retirement or exile or whatever he's in over there, you would would be delighted with his contributions. On the other hand, if he were a judge, perhaps he couldn't compete??? Check this archive link for a sample of his work:

Remember to un-wrap the url if it wraps. (Or else just search the older archives on "Hickman AND Atlantic".) Who is in touch with Tony these days anyway? Rock?? How about you Aussies? John? Get the dogs! Put out an APB! Let's find him.

On another note, Kathie, you are to be commended for introducing this contest. It's clear the pumpkin community has a lot of simmering, pent-up creativity that's about to explode. I believe you mentioned the contest as an off-season activity, and immediately you have, what... a thousand or so entries? Clearly your initiative is needed and appreciated. Kudos to you, girl!

Beth
