Brad and others:
As to the last sentence in your post my answer
is no!
After reading a lot of posts on this subject my
opinion is that the IPGA will use more qualified judges in the future, my
only point to the IPGA is that they are responsible for the judging whether
they like it or not.
All of the folks involved in this dilemma are
good and honest people.
My experience in attending the Ottawa
weigh-offs for 3 years is that Tom's pumpkin would not have gotten to the
scales and the grower would have no say in the lifting and
inspection.
This is for the IPGA and Tom Beachy to come to
grips with, not the rest of the USA and Canada.
Am I the only person who would like to hear
from Tom Beachy on this subject.
Just my opinion:

RECORD
Andrew and others,
The
weigh-off at Hubers is an IPGA affiliated weigh-off. As is the
Indiana State Fair and the Noblesville weigh-off. Maybe you need to
read a little closer. We accepted the judges decision that day and
agreed that Tom was the winner.
Andrew, if you bring a 1263 to the
weigh-off this year and set the new world record, do you think it should
count if it is oozing fluid at a steady rate while it is still on the
scale? If you can answer that yes with a clear conscience let me
know.
For the record, the judges
and the host did approach me, the site coordinator, and ask me what they
should do. I told them this is situation we have never seen before.
I also ask them. Did it pass the final inspection you gave it?
They said "yes" By the rules the judges had every right
to make the decision the did. I agreed with them in their decision.
However, the question still remains. Was this pumpkin, that
was still sitting on the scale free of damage and rot? No
Would you like to trade places with me?
Brad
