Re: 1245 Bailey 2002

Wow Tim. Way to go. Great idea to caulk the pumpkin to let it continue growing. That will make one great jack-o-lantern

List,

I just wanted to publicly thank all who have been a great help to me this season and in years past. A special thanks to Andy Wolf whose been willing to help out in any way, even to bringing his lifting device and helping me load it up in the rain yesterday.

Here are some details on my exhibition 1245. Final measuements were 187 X 113.5 X 107.5 (408). It was grown on approx. 400sq.ft. and was 8' from the stump. It split 5 weeks ago and I immediately used silicone caulk to fill the less than pencil sized hole. I applied more caulk as I anticipated the split increasing to avoid exposing the cavity further. To my amazement, the fruit continued to grow right up to when I cut it. No sign of rot.

I appreciated all the sympathy I received, but actually I was quite happy just to be able to get it weighed at Clarence even as an exhibition only. I also appreciate those growers who came quite some distance to see it go to the scales. Thanks guys!
