Re: Bigun Down

Hi Don,

Congratulations on the first 1000lber grown in the South. The
fact that it can only make it as an exhibition pumpkin shouldn't
deter you from growing one again--now that you know how to grow
one.

Hard to figure out what to say to make you feel better. Getting
it weighed will certainly help. Hopefully you can look back on
this one someday (soon) and tell the story to your friends about
the "one that got away" along with the story of the one that
didn't!

I believe that it is the general consensus that most dedicated
pumpkin growers don't enter into any other contests except state
or similar weigh-offs. In this case, however, you might
consider finding a county fair this weekend to enter the pumpkin
in as an exhibition. You (and the pumpkin) will get loads of
attention and it will be a great way to spread good things about
pumpkin growing to those kids and others just learning to grow
pumpkins(who are usually the ones who enter county fairs). You
probably will even get a story in a local newspaper which you
certainly deserve.

Even with the pumpkin down and out this year, I am sure that all
of those who frequent the AGGC will want to know the particulars
of your pumpkin (not to mention seeds ;) )

Hang in there and great luck next year!
