Second 9-11 story for all of you.
The story I just told all of you, I let a new friend that works with me read.
He is a Fireman who went to New York on 09-12. He came out of my office with
tears in his eyes. He told me several stories about when he went to New York
and tried his best to help others.
He then told me the following story about something that happened after.
I hope you all enjoy.

Excuse Me Mister.... Where You There?
We all think of herobs in our own way. I had many growing up. The Man of
Steel, the trusted Batman and his partner Robin! All set the stones in place
in my
mind that herobs had super human strength and would go where No Man Has Gone
Before!
Working for the Gas Company almost my whole life. I have learned that those
heroes we all dreamed about are real. They are pretty easy to pick out of a
crowd; they usually have the letters FD, PD or US somewhere on their front,
back
or sleeve of their arm. They do what they do every day, because itbs there
job!
President Bush recently said "to heal America we must all do what we do
best," These Police, Firefighters and Military Personnel do their best every
day.
Before September 11th and even more so today!
A new found friend and co-worker recently told me this experience he had a
year ago Today on the eve of the 1 year anniversary of 09-11.
I thought it proper to share now!
My friend is Lt. Tim Wren. He is a Firefighter in the city of Troy, Michigan.
For the year 2001 he was in charge of the Fallen Firefighterbs Memorial that
is held every year for all the Firefighters that had died that year in the
line of duty.
(Tim is a special kind of guy, you can see the love in his eyes and hear it
in his voice, when he tells all of the special things that he experienced as a
Firefighter and EMT, even more so when he tells of going to New York on
09-12-01 for a week to help).
With all that had happened in 2001 and all that were lost. Tim had to move
the Firefighterbs memorial several times because the number of people that
were
coming grew and grew.
Tim finally pulled it all together and it was held in Maryland.
Everything went wonderful. President Bush even made an unscheduled appearance
and speech.
Tim said when President Bush got to the front of all that had gathered, he
stopped and turned toward him as if to say thank you for all his work. Tim
saluted and President Bush saluted back! It made him so proud that the
President of
the United States of America took the time to thank everyone for their help
and honor all that had fallen that year. (and his Mom and Dad were watching
Tim
with our President) On the long ride home from one of the best experiences of
Timbs life, he and his friend Lt Jack Spreyer stopped for dinner at a Steak
and Shake Restaurant. They were both wearing their dress Firefighters uniforms
and were quickly and quietly seated at the back of the restaurant. As they
sat, they finally had the chance to relax after a very, very long day.
They were sitting there talking when a little, blond girl, who must have been
no more than five or six years old, walked up to their booth, she held
something in her hand behind her back.
She asked ever so quietly
"Excuse me mister, were you there?"
Tim answered "sweetheart where do you mean?"
The little girl replied "you know!"
Jack said "do you mean World Trade Center in New York?"
Yes! The little girl replied!
Tim told her that both him and his friend Jack were there along with a lot of
their friends. They were there for over a week. The little girl stepped back
from the table and sort of beamed with a smile as she pulled the paper and pen
from behind her back. She then said "Could I Please! have your autographs"
both Tim and his friend Jack proudly signed the paper the little girl
presented, she thanked them and went back to her seat.
Tim and Jack watched as the little girl showed the paper to her mom and dad,
they then were surprised when the little girls Mom and Dad stood to applaud
the heroesb. Just when Tim and Jack were thinking that life doesnbt get
any
better than this, the whole restaurant rose to its feet and applauded the two
heroesb that didnbt know they were! Both stood and thanked everyone.
On the long ride home Tim and his friend Jack were so proud of all that had
happened. Firemen have always done the things they do and they have done them
every day of their lives.
Today they discovered something different! America was finally as proud of
them as they were of America!
