World Records

Fellow Growers---there can only be one official, therefore sound, world record
giant pumpkin at a time. The same applies to national, provincial, state
records etc,of course too.

The present world record giant pumpkin was grown by Mr Houghton of NH in
2002 and he deserves to be honored with that title until a greater qualified
fruit comes along.

From time to time there will be AGs that are heavier than a record but if
they are damaged (not sound) then they have no claim on the title.

They are in an entirely different category and if anyone wants to make a
list of top unofficial, estimated, damaged or disqualified pumpkins they are
free to do so.

In the meantime why do a few writers try to confuse the two groupings which
just tends to take away from the rightful title holder and mislead those in
the media and public who don't really know the difference.

This is not to say that damaged AGs that weigh greater than a record, any
record, should be ignored. In fact the growers deserve a lot of credit but to
be fair to everyone those fruit should be recognized for what they are.
