Glenn
WOW looks like I woke you up ?? well here is the Deal. I have Been Fortunate
enough to weigh in two Dark Green Squash. one was my 703* Smith EXH which is
featured in Don Langevins new book and the 502* Smith 03 which won first place
last year at Borchard Farms weigh off. now i won't argue that I have seen
Squash that In my opinion were TRUE Squash but were Seafoam Green and I have seen
squash that once "PHOTOGRAPHED" looked white. here is the deal I am a TRUEST
and so are you BUT we can look at the problem from several angles..
One is if you go telling people that someone weighed in a Squash and it in
your opinion was a pumpkin you are just disrespecting everyone involved. who
are we to challenge what the Judges said they were working with a set of rules
and they followed them lets take for example the 947 Calai* 02 that Fruit
looks to be Very orange and have a little green in the PHOTO but I was not there
and photos do hide color depending on light etc. now the 1064 Mombert* 01 in
photos looks also like a pumpkin but I WOULD NEVER disrespect the growers by
challenging there and the Judges ruling on the fruit. And in doing so you are
trying to discredit everyone because they don't see it OUR WAY. they are just
following the RULES THEY ARE GIVEN.
Now Glenn you and I agree in most part that the Green ones you and I would
like to see are the 986 Heaster* ,895.5 Hester* ,962 Sherwood* ETC But that is
not the rule of the land so until we deal with the Real Problem of having
more then two classes to weigh in, Green Growers just have to sit back and allow
upstanding weigh off organizers like Tom Borchard to tighten the loop between
green and orange one little tug at a time.
Now I know how feelings get hurt on this list but I am actually trying to
save hurt feelings we can't MAKE UP OUR OWN RULES until we host our own weigh
off so for now be happy that there is still such an interest in the dark green
Squash..... and I used the term True Green because Most growers say there has
never been a TRUE GREEN SQUASH Grown over 1000 lbs but since I don't have my
own weigh off I can't say anything .. Take care and now I am ready to be
attacked !!
Kevin Smith ... I will leave Zane out of this !!!
Squash Buckler !!!!!
