First of all, if it is soft around the hole, you need to scrape
away all the soft flesh.  Use a spoon and gently scrape the
hole down to firm meat.  If it is soft all the way into the
cavity.... you're done.  If not, rub the area down with a 10%
solution of bleach.  I then use a mix of copper-based fungicide
and powered Capton to make a thick paste and coat the area with
a small brush.

Then you have to get it dry, use a warm hair dryer until it is
dry.  Then set the hair dryer on cool, prop it up and use it as
a fan to keep the area dry.
