Re: Why not plant earlier?

List
Here in Torrance, CA I compare notes with Bob Troy allot and here is some
things we have noted. I typically start April 20th Bob early to mid May. my
plants are Bigger earlier but Bob gets to Relax while I fight the Elements with
wind protection, cold soil and possible frost. By June my plants look big and
robust with 4 foot mains and Bobs are at the 10 leaf stage or so. By July 1st my
plants are 10 to 13 foot mains and Bobs are 10 to 13 foot mains and cover the
same sq footage. Bob typically has bigger and better plants by August and by
September I have very few leaves left and Bob is on his way to setting another
state record !!
This year was our warmest and Most intense sun light I think we have had
in years. It truly is a live and learn sport but there are Growers who get
there pumpkins going earlier then the rest of the country and I know of growers
who get them going much later. Just remember the plant has a Life span and the
pumpkin has a span of growth try and match that with your weather pattern and
you will be the next heavy hitter. In my opinion a HEAVY HITTER is someone that
MASTERED there own growing conditions !!! Take care and I hope you all have a
Wonderful season and I am Looking foreword to seeing all of you with your new
personal bests !!
