I share your sentiment on the old iron workhorses. I am currently
rebuilding my '67 Allis Chalmers B-10 trying to get it back together in
time for the fall till.

Brian,
1952 WD-9. Thanks for the link. I have a good neighbor that could
probably repair the space shuttle if he had to. He's going to give me a
hand. Have a "newer JD" to use in the mean time, it's just not as much
fun as the oldie!

Pumpkinguy,
Grew them 2 years ago! Didn't have the size you did because of very dry
weather. They are great! I am just the kind of guy that always has to
try somethind new.....even if I should know better. Grew Conneticuts
this year with some Big Max and Big Moon. Am going to take your advise
for my fund raiser. If I can find a website with advise on a 1952
International Tractor repair, I can disc up 2 more acres this fall. Wher
are you from Wayne?

Steve,
Why not grow Prizewinner variety. They have great color and are
easier for the customers to lift when they get them home. We used to
grow 1,000 to 1,500 of them on five irrigated acres and sold every one.
They average about 140 pounds and go as high as 200. We wholesaled most
of them. We even had a guy that would come in after the main picking
and take the small ones.

"Pink" or peach color is common. I have never had an AG turn bright
orange like a field pumpkin. Around here, people pay us big$ for "off"
colored pumpkins. I grow a couple of acres of field pumpkins and let
local school kids have field trips and such in October. Next year, my
wife and I want to set up a pumpkin auction for money to go to St.
Judes Children's Hospital.
I will share photos and results with this site.
P.S. Anyone out there interested in some seed swapping? I have been
busting a hump getting a new patch ready for Ags next year.
