My 500 pounder in northwest Vermont isn't white, but cream-colored. Parent was a pistachio or mint ice cream color. Here's a link to get you started on protection. http://www.pumpkinnook.com/howto/protect.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: <yorunk@comcast.net>

I was wondering what ya'll use to protect the pumpkins from rain and water. I rigged up tarps over the cages this past week when we had 3+ inches of rain. It was very time consuming to put up since I used bricks, bungee cords and stakes. We might get some more rain tomorrow night and want to do something, but not as intricate. It's a pain to take down and put the tarps back up. I use sheets to shade during the day since the tarps don't breathe enough for me.For those in N Illinois, are you still using shades? Also, anyone have white pumpkins? Two of mine from the same seed stock are white.Debbie --------------------------------------------------------------------- Pumpkin-growing archives: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/ To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS
