RE: Stalling out

Good luck Steve. You seem to have a great attitude! Dave is THE KING of The
Land of Lakes from what I've seen. It is great that these big boys and girls
help us out. The Borax thing was a great "discovery" this year. My little
Brother has one going that had stem rot earlier. It may hit 800#. My patch
was much more humble. Thanks to Steve Jepsen, Kathie Morgan, Dave Bhaskaran
to name a few! I am getting prepared to sit in a combine for some "cash
crashing"!

I have one AG holding its own, in spite of the fact it has hollow spots
inside. If you hadn't revealed the borax solution to my stump rot, it would
probably have gone to the compost pile a month ago. OTT measurements say
@444,
but I say 300-350. Nice orange color, one rib pronounced, seed courtesy of
Mr. Minnesota pumpkin-meister Dave Bhaskaran. If it holds up, it's going to
be a giant jack-o-lantern for an organic pizza shop in Burlington, VT. They
give me buckets of scraps for my compost pile. :-). Steve M.

Hey Steve,
Did you have any luck with finishing an AG this season or were they all
hollow?

Bummer, Shawn. Welcome to the "50 ways to lose your pumpkin" club. We all
eventually realize how fragile AGs are, and then try to beat the odds in
spite
of the problems. I've finally come to understand why many top growers have
at
least 5-10 fruit growing every year. Steve M.

Well found out why my pumpkin stalled out. It has soft rot along the bottom
side...so it is lost. It was looking so nice too...oh well. Will have fun
trying again next year!

Just wondering about a pumpkin starting to slow down... The pumpkin I have
has been growing very well and this last week it seems to slow down a bit.
The plant leaves are still very nice and the plant itself seems to be
healthy in all other aspects. How much weight does a pumpkin tend to gain
on a weekly basis? Is there a growth curve or chart that anyone knows
about? This is a tough question because it depends on the pumpkin and
environment, but just curious.
