Stem soft spot

A couple days ago I noticed a soft spot, about the size of a penny on the
stem of one of my AGs. I scraped out the soft stuff, applied a Capatan
paste and removed the shade tarp to allow better ventilation. Does anyone
else have any suggestions for keeping this Pumpkin going, I am not
interested in it getting any larger, just keeping it as is until Oct, 31.
