HA! ANd i am NOT talking about myself, so get that look off your face! 
Paul, in Costa Mesa, I believe it's the heat with my withery women.  All
my gourds and other types of pumpkins are doing well... it seems that
maybe just this type of seed doesn't tolerate this intense heat well at
all.  If I don't get one AG I am going to have to scream and pull all my
hair out.  We'll see...
