when do I disconnect my pumpkin?

Hi,

Well I need to get my pumpkin to the fair on Sept. 16. My question is
"when do I disconnect Mr. Pumpkin from the vine?" Should I wait until
the 16th? He's still growing - nice & slow. I pray everyday that he
doesn't explode or crack.  I've been watering him about every other day
since we haven't had much rain.  I keep the waterings light & the last
time I fertilized him was about 3 weeks ago with a light sprinkling of
10-10-10.  He's now approx. 525 lbs! He's quite a "looker" too! My big
fear is that we'll get a heavy rain & he'll split - should I disconnect
him if we get a heavy rain?
