Here is the posting I promised on the weights of the pumpkins at the Puyallup Fair. I guess when you've lived among the pygmies people of normal stature look like giants. Joel Holland's entry weighed in at 601 lbs. and Geneva Emmons at 556 lbs.. I guess the just wanted to get the runts out of their patches. I know they have produced much larger pumpkins in the past. None of the other entries were over 500 lbs. I would have posted some of the other names and weights however I could not read them after the judges had marked up the entry tags. Hans weighed in at 141 lbs. only 1 lb. off my last years effort and I have 3 larger ones still growing so barring a disaster I will definately top my first years pumpkin. I did get the blue ribbon for my spaghetti squash and showed well at the rose show too so I'm quite pleased with my successes so far. Well OK only 1 of the 3 still seems to be growing but they are all larger than Hans. I also have a wagon wheel shaped pumpkin that was open pollinated who knows when in August that is rapidly gaining on the others. So who knows what things will be like by October? Good growing everyone. Chris Michalec Kent, WA
