growth since split-update

It has now been 2 weeks since my pumpkin split in three places, and--wonders
never cease--the thing is still alive and kicking. It has now reached 104
inches in circumference, and seems to be putting on a steady 10-12 pounds a
day. To keep it alive, I have been using duct tape and pruning paint to
seal the ever-expanding cracks. This means I have to treat it at least
twice a day. The weather has been hot, which tends to spur decomposition,
so I am surprised that it seems as sound as it does.

I did notice an ominous smell the other day--familiar to those whose
pumpkins have split, so I know this can't go on indefinitely. But I may be
able to get another 100 lbs out of the thing.

And for those who might be curious, the splits do not seem to be distorting
the shape, though it is about 4 or 5 inches higher on one side than the
other. But it is no more "deformed" than most Giant Atlantics.

As for the pumpkin growing in the tree, it is doing well, though it will
split the stem as it grows and forces the stem down.
