Flower won't fall off

Hey guys,
Like I said I just now have some baby AG's. I am scared because the
flower won't fall off the end. On my howdens and on my gourds the
flowers fell off about the day or two after pollination. The AG seems
to be growing, but I thought maybe this resurge in heat (Texas) had
caused it to be aborting or something. Please clue me in... I am a
little concerned. PLUS, I don't know if you guys know anything about
Howdens or not, but they sure are growing slowly. Are they possibly
aborting too? My AG has done more growing in 7 days than my Howdens
have done since they were pollinated a month ago. How come my gourds
are doing so well and my pumpkins have such trouble? Am I destined to
be a pumpkin failure? Will I end up carving gourds instead of
pumpkins...? Pumpkins have always been my favorite plant since I was a
child; as much as I love my gourds I don't want to have to change
favorites!!!
THANKS!
K
