Scott-the same thing is going on here in Massapequa-12 miles east of you. I
noticed the increase in vegetative growth shortly after it started to cool
down-not 90's anymore and we had those first 4-5 days of mostly cloudy-the
first mostly cloudy days in almost 2 months. On Long Island the weather has
been all sun for July and august-no rain at all.(fortunately thats the one
thing we can correct ).I think that the plant(s) were just rejuvinated by that
period of mostly cloudy.I dont know about yours, but my leaves took a real
beating this summer: no rain to wash the leaves free of dirt and old
chemicals......pesticides.fungisides,.....hot-hot sun,a caretaker thats afraid
to wet the leaves,.......etc.
Now here's my question-(to mike Brock since your in Ca.)-at what point does
it become benificial to shade the plant from direct sun-I have debris netting
that I can rig up as a shade screen-but I dont know if it will help or reduce
the photosynthesis?
Anyone else out there that can offer some experiences or scientific imput on
this?Coasting til Oct.3-but planning for May.!
