Seems there are hazards everywhere. Here is my story.
In 1993 my personal best at that time of 721.5 was sold to a local garden
centre for display with the condition that I could come and retrieve the
seeds when it was all over.
On the big day when I went to get the seeds, the manager told me thieves in
the night had come and cut holes in the fruit and stolen all the seeds, but
he was able to save me 20 that they had missed.A true friend for sure.
Later that fall,my son who worked nearby told me that this garden center was
selling Giant Pumpkin seeds AND telling people they came from their 721.5
pounder.
So I had only 20 seeds but I also knew by then that this honorable
businessman was a thief and a liar and a fool.
To top it off I stopped once and casually asked the growers son,who didn't
know me,about the giant they had on display. He told me clearly how THEY grew
it and were so proud of their accomplishment.I didn't comment, just walked
away smiling at how they could be so proud of MY summers work and claim it
for themselves.-----------Al Eaton
P.S.-I still sell him a good AG each fall BUT now I take the seeds out first
from a hole in the bottom, then spray with fungicide and put the plug back
in.The fruit lasts its normal life so he is happy and so am I.We adapt.
