RE: Update from Spencerville

OK here's the scoop.

First pollinated plant - 1st pumpkin blew up. - 2nd pumpkin blew up. plant
terminated.

Second Pollinated Plant - 1st pumpkin blew up - 2nd pumpkin getting there -
a current personal best but I go away for the first time all summer and
the moles/mice put about 80-100 teeth marks at the 4 " height around the
base of it last Sunday. put fungicide/insecticide and moth balls around it
and covered er back up, should last another 10 days.

Third pollinated plant - grew slowly - terminated at 550 lbs. carved it
Sept 13 face attached as jpg file.

Fourth pollinated plant - split - moved pumpkin to neighbors patch as a
joke.- 80% of plant terminated including stump. unintentionally grew a 205
lb pumpkin in the discard pile and when the fair came around filled er with
110 lbs of water and told the boys I thought she might weigh heavy. We had
a good laugh. She weighed 325lbs full drained er then weighed 205 empty.

Squash-1st pollinated blew up Threw it in the pool then carved it next day
- lasted about a week- 2nd pollinated blew up- growing three small ones for
seed about 30-40 lbs.

Fifth pollinated Pumpkin Plant. late starter but my biggest plant ever.
Pollinated July 18th. and later- grew three pumpkins which by the fair time
weighed in at 1800+ lbs. total . Took the biggest to the fair 658 lbs. took
second prize. Sold the second one out of the patch for display and it
weighed 683 lbs. a week later - a personal best. - third pumpkin still on
the vine and growing slowly.going to keep this one for a while. Boy what a
plant - I wonder what would have happened if I had grown only one. probably
would have blew it up.

three watermelons at about 20" long and seem to be pretty heavy still
growing. 1st time growing these.

Grape plants - 3 - just about ready to harvest for wine- won 1st prize at
the fair for Dry White Wine. Then we drank the bottle.

What am I gonna do when winter comes?

Bob

PS the other boys and gals around have some pretty big ones still on the
vine.
