Jozee's last rights

hi all, no good news from long island. my beloved Jozee has made her
way to the great pumpkin patch in the sky. this pumpkin was more than
just a hobby for me, it was an obsession. I had grown it in memory of
my uncle Joe, An old time farmer. As a boy, i often expressed to him my
desire to grow a giant pumpkin. of course he told me the old "milk"
story, and maybe i believed him. But regardless of that fact, he was a
great man, a role model even. but now, at age 25, i decided the time
was right. i had the know how, i had the seeds, i had the drive, i had
the desire. I grew this pumpkin for him, and for me. But alas, it was
not to be. the infamous "soft spot" was discovered last night. the
consistancy was of the skin of chocolate pudding. i knew it was over,
and only 11 days to go. I cleared the leaves away for one last photo
shoot, and then, i found it, a hole about 3" in diameter, about a foot
an a half from the pumpkin. Probably a rat. I should have trusted my
dogs' nose, with her impending desire to go into my pumpkin patch, but i
dismissed it as craziness. She knew all along, but i remained clueless.
Jozees final measurements were side to side 95" blossom to stem 28.25",
and circumference 141.5". It was very wide (4') and quite tall (34.5").
this seed was from howard dills 715, i self pollinated it. The autopsy
will be performed tonight, with the (now traditional) weighing of the
chunks. All is not lost however, i still have a 300 pounder i plan to
bring to the weighoff, and this is only my first year. I will be back!!

if anyone wants seeds from Jozee, you all know the bubble mailer drill:

P.S. an "official" combined chunk weight will be posted tommorrow.
This pumpkin was very round with deep well defined ribs, and tons of
cantelouping. the 715 was a 567.5 mombert, (mother), and a 804 Zehr
(father). Good luck to all of you.
