final update.. pictures available..

Well, here I am one more time, I recieved the pictures back, and the
Kodak disk alos, so I updated the webpage one last time, with all sorts
of autopsy results. From the main page, go to the garden page for quite
a few pictures of seeds to squash sections..
My autopsy was wrapped up and a final decision has been made. The wall
thickness was nearly 12 inches in most parts, and the sides of the
squash were having a rough time pushing out, with all the weight, so as
the bottom of the squash yearned to grow more, the sides were not
allowing it to, and hence, the concave bottom, whicch so many people
getwith these heavy monsters. As the bottom pushed outward, and got no
results, it pushed upward, eventually killing itself with a 3 inch crack
onthe bottom.
To alleviate this problem next year, I plan to use some construction
wall styrofoam insssulation that is slick, and is over 2 inches thick.
This will allow for the fruit to slide as it grows, while adding safety
from the moisture, added protection, to some degree, from varmints, and
lastly elevate it from the rain waters that sometomes puddle around the
fruit. Any other great suggestions for undercoverings for next years
growing? Will the styrofoam hold the weight of the fruit, if it indeed
does get to 879pounds again, or will it just start to indent into the
product, leaving me with more of a mess than I originally bargained
for..?
