Pumpkin Displays
Hi Everyone,
Ack! It's September. I was supposed to have a thousand pounder sitting out
there by now. What the heck happened!? Oh well, it has been and continues
to be a fun year of growing these incredible things, even if, yet again, I'm
no world champ (or state champ or local champ, for that matter). In spite
of the early season dreaming, I don't really do this to be a champion. That
would be a great bonus, but I grow because it's such a joy to spend my
summer watching a miracle.
Still it is September. About a month till weighoffs, and about two months
till Halloween. Since the world champion pumpkin dream is not going to
materialize, now I'm starting to dream about a world champion Halloween
display. Help me!
What are your best ideas? I want conceptual stuff, but I also want nuts and
bolts details. I'm thinking (of course!) snazzy pumpkins. I'm thinking
straw bales and corn stalks and faux-rickety farm fences (don't find too
many real-rickety farm fences in the city). I'm thinking dry ice and cool
lighting.
What have your best displays been? What details made them work? What
flourishes put them over the edge?
