hello all-SD update
Hi list-it's been a long time since I've had the opportunity to make a post.
For those of you that has ever had a loved one or friend suffer through the
horrific disease of cancer, I can relate with you. My father, once a proud
and strong man of 225 pounds is now a mere shadow of himself at 115 pounds.
However, I still have not given up hope.
My father asked me for pictures of my garden, so I have made the treck back
to Brookings, SD. I'm almost embarrassed to show him the pictures. If anyone
wants a picture of HOW NOT TO GROW an AG, I have them. I also have pictures
of vines skeletonized with borer damage, which is unusual in my area.
Anyway the South Dakota update does not look good as most growers I've
talked with have had a problem in one way or another-the guess is anything
over 350 pounds will win the contest. Furthermore, we lost one of are best
growers and friend to all, Chris Wilbers, to the great state of Missouri.
Our loss is most definitely your gain, I suggest the Missouri growers
welcome Chris and his family with open arms because Chris is a wonderful
grower with much knowledge.
Now the purpose of this post; the following to sites may be of interest to
those of you that have drought problems or specific questions to problems
you have encountered.
Dealing with Drought - Gardening practices and helpful tips
for conserving water, promoting plant health and just
surviving hot weather and drought. Just because you're under
a water use restriction doesn't necessarily mean you can't
water via a watering can or even a hose to keep your garden
alive. Read more at

I still keep updated with my monthly phone calls to the "professor" Pete
Glasier. Plus I just received a very nice e-mail from Pumpkin Flower with a
great picture of her, her daughter, and her large pumpkin-WAY TO GO!!!!!
Well I hope everyone on this list has a pumpkin that is progressing in large
and record ways!
Best Wishes,
Buck Meier
