Steve,
As with ANY virus (plant or animal), there is no cure. Prevention is the
key. Plant rotation and the thorough destruction and elimination of last
year's infected crop will better your chances the following year. Aphids are
a primary vector of many pumpkin diseases and viruses. Control them and
their habitat and your better your chances of not being infected.
Fortunately, I believe people are starting to breed AGs for something other
than size. Disease resistance, heat resistance, and insect resistance are
all attributes just as important, if not moreso, than size and weight. I
don't care how many 700-900 pounders are in it's past, if your plant wilts
in 75 degree weather and it's a target for every insect, disease, and virus
under the sun, what good is it to future generations?
Just my opinion,
Mike
