Hi Team
Next week (20th) sees the start of the pumpkin
season. All seeds have gone out to Service Centres and staff are ready,
waiting for the rush.
Newspaper and radio promo's all set. Choc's away -
up into the wild blue, yonder.
It has been a classic spring so far with warm rain,
no wind and sunny weather around the mid to high teens Celsius.
I also look after Emergency Management in regard to
wildfire threat and I get all the meteorological guff. The forecast is for a
long, hot summer so I will have to get the well working again.
It looks like we will have sites here, Kawerau
(volcanic Plateau, N Island), Kaiapoi, S Island, Invercargill (deep south)
and now in Russell in the tropical top of the N Island. Watch out Aussies -
we are getting you surrounded.
Our season will be one week longer that our Aussie
friends so we will undoubtedly win the Aust/Zealand Pumpkin Cup which is
made from solid gold and has been lost in the (Aussie) post. Our Pumpkin
Festival will be on April 9th 2000.
There is a rumour that Tony Hickman has pollinated a
pumpkin with a Kangaroo and got a pumpkin that keeps hopping down the road
to see his mate with a tinnie of Fosters.
I am really trying to get 400 registered growers
this year. We are giving out live plants as well as seeds in town squares
and retail areas on Saturday mornings. Would be neat to get 150 pumpkin on
the day.
Watch this space and have a 'Parky' day.
